The oldest professional ballet company formed in Australia still in existence today, West Australian Ballet, is coming to Hedland to hold a number of engaging workshops with the community.
Representatives from West Australian Ballet will be holding workshops at the Libraries, the JD Hardie Youth Zone, schools and other locations across Hedland.
Workshops will engage young children, youth and older residents with the artistic and historical background of ballet, seeking to enhance understanding and appreciation for the art form.
Storytime sessions will be held at the Libraries, as well as a special OWLS session on ballet’s historical context, and youth workshops will be held at the JD.
Mayor Camilo Blanco said the visit was a unique opportunity for Hedland to learn more about ballet.
“I’m pleased that an organisation like West Australian Ballet, with an impressive reputation for both traditional and contemporary dance, will be visiting Hedland this month.
“Following on from last year’s successful visit, this year will be even bigger.
“This is an organisation which tours nationally and internationally, and features world class artistic talent producing and performing shows such as Dracula and The Nutcracker.
“When organisations like West Australian Ballet tour regional WA, it gives everyone the chance to be exposed to diverse arts and culture.
“I would encourage everyone to come along to some of the sessions during the week.”
