Small Business Friendly Local Government Alliance
The Town of Port Hedland is committed to forging strong ties with local businesses by signing onto the Small Business Friendly Local Government Alliance initiative.
The program is a WA Government initiative designed to encourage local governments to build better relationships with small and medium-sized businesses.
The primary objectives of the program is to achieve the following:
- Reduce red tape
- Engance the customer service experience for local businesses
- Make payments on time
- Have processes in place to resolve disputes; and
- Introduce activities to improve the business environment.
The Town is currently looking to implement a range of initiatives aimed at increasing engagement and support to local businesses, including:
- Regular face-to-face meetings with small and medium-sized businesses
- Development of simplified guides to assist new and existing businesses navigate the Town's processes
- Updating the Town's website to improve navigation and access to information pertinent to small businesses
- Continuation of the Economic Development and Diversification Fund; and
- Implementation of the Economic Development and Tourism Strategy

The Town of Port Hedland’s has strengthened its commitment to local businesses by signing onto the Small Business Friendly Local Government Alliance.
Mayor Peter Carter said signing onto the alliance was an important step in the Town building strong relationships with local businesses.
“The Town is committed to helping small and medium-sized businesses grow and thrive,” Mayor Carter said.
“Having a resilient and thriving business sector is key part of increasing liveability and making Hedland a more attractive place to work and live.”
The Small Business Friendly Local Government Alliance program is a State Government initiative designed to encourage and foster better relationships between local governments and small business.
Mayor Carter said the Town was currently implementing a range of initiatives to better support local businesses.
These include regular face-to-face meetings with small and medium businesses and enhancing engagement with local businesses with regards to the Town’s procurement processes.
“We also have the Economic Development and Diversification Fund which offers two funding streams for business development and expansion," Mayor Carter said.
“Businesses are encouraged to meet with the Town if they haven’t already to discuss programs and projects currently underway that aim to support them.”
