The Town of Port Hedland and Act Belong Commit have been in an active partnership since March 2025.

Act-Belong-Commit is a community based health promotion campaign that encourages people to take action to improve their mental health and wellbeing.

This evidence-based campaign was developed primarily from research undertaken by Curtin University into people’s perceptions of mental health and the behaviours they believed protected and promoted good mental health.

The campaign is directed by Mentally Healthy WA at Curtin University, and implemented through health services, local governments, not-for-profit groups, and community clubs and groups. The campaign started in WA, but has spread internationally and has strong and positive brand recognition across Western Australia.

Act Belong Commit's message is to encourage people to prioritise their mental health and wellbeing through being active, connecting with others and partaking in meaningful activities.

This message supports the Town's vision and commitment of "Together, we create a thriving, resilient and inclusive future for our community."

The Town hosts and collaborates with community organisations on a range of events and programs that promote health, well-being and connection. These include sports and recreation activities, mental health awareness, inclusion and healthy eating programs.

The Act Belong Commit guidelines for positive mental health provide a simple approach you can adopt to become more mentally healthy:

Act: Keep active physically, socially, mentally and spiritually.

Belong: Keep connected to friends, family and your community.

Commit: Do something meaningful, important and valuable to you.
