Annual Green Waste Collection
Please note, the Town's annual green waste collection has now finished. Thankyou to everyone who participated and helped clear out green, excess waste from their properties.
Last year, (2023) the Town collected 103.295 tonnes of green waste, with 31.78320 tonnes converted into mulch.
This year, (2014) the Town collected 189.63 tonnes of green waste, with 88.99 tonnes being turned into mulch, ready to give back to the community for free!
Mulch was made available at two locations: Cooke Point Standpipe along Cooke Point Drive, Port Hedland, and Dreamers Corner in South Hedland. Mulch availability is based on first-in-best-dressed.
The Town is committed to creating a safe and resilient community, and is taking proactive steps to minimise risk in the lead up to cyclone season.
FAQs
WHAT IS CLASSIFIED AS 'GREEN WASTE'?

- Tree Branches
- Leaves

- Any other household, industrial or commercial waste items other than green waste!
HOW DO I PUT GREEN WASTE ON THE KERBSIDE?
- Please make sure clippings are no longer than 1.5 metres each
- Please make sure clippings are neatly stacked
- Leaves should be tied or placed in a bag to stop spread
- Please do not obstruct paths or infrastructure
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO CLEAR AWAY EXCESS GREEN WASTE?
Port Hedland's location in the Pilbara means the town site is susceptible to a number of cyclonic weather systems every year. These systems can cause extreme wind gusts, picking up yard items into the air and causing significant property damage. Excess green waste, particularly low hanging branches and fronds, can be knocked into walls and windows or be catapulted into neighbouring yards or public spaces. All residents must do their part to ensure we can all experience a safe cyclone season.
I HAVE OTHER WASTE IN MY YARD - HOW DO I DISPOSE OF THIS?
If you have any other excess items in your yard, such as old outdoor furniture, timber, white goods, or e-waste, please visit the South Hedland Landfill. Residential waste items can also be disposed at the facility after hours by using the after hours skip bins
