The Town of Port Hedland has welcomed news that its application for State Government funding for the planned JD Adventure Park has been successful.

Hon David Templeman, Minister for Sport and Recreation, visited Hedland today to announce the State Government will contribute $2 million to the project, which will see an outdoor BMX and activity park developed next to the JD Hardie Youth and Community Hub in South Hedland.

Town of Port Hedland Mayor Peter Carter said the JD Adventure Park would help lift the liveability of Hedland.

“Our youth need active recreation options to help them enjoy life in Hedland and to stay fit and healthy,” Mayor Carter said.

“The JD Adventure Park is an innovative concept which appreciates the outdoor and active characteristics of our community, while expanding on a popular and well-utilised youth and community hub.

The concept design for the JD Adventure Park was endorsed by the Town of Port Hedland Council in December 2023. It is the third stage of the JD Hardie masterplan which was endorsed by Council in July 2019.

“The Town has worked closely with the community to develop the concept - we are excited about turning it into reality with the help of funding partners.

“With this State Government funding the project is close to 75 per cent funded. We will continue to advocate to other funding agencies and partners to get the project fully funded and able to proceed to construction.”

The JD Adventure Park will include a BMX jump track, pump track, parkour area, turf areas for passive recreation and bicycle repair stations.
