REFER TO EMERGENCY WA FOR THE MOST UP-TO-DATE ALERTS AND WARNINGS

It's important to familiarise yourself with the Alert Warning System and what steps you need to take at each alert level.

  • ADVICE – an incident is active. Be aware and keep up to date

  • WATCH AND ACT – there is a possible threat. Take action now to stay safe

  • EMERGENCY WARNING – There is a threat to lives and homes, take immediate action

Further information is available in the Town's Cyclone Information booklet. You can print, view, or download a copy to your tablet/phone.

WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW?

Has anything closed yet?

  • The RV Overflow on McGregor Street is currently closed until further notice.

  • The JD Hardie Youth and Community Centre has cancelled planned programs.

I have excess waste I need to get rid of. Are you still doing kerbside collection and is South Hedland Landfill still open?

  • Kerbside collections continue as normal during ADVICE, and the South Hedland Landfill is open and accepting waste.

What happens now?

  • The Town will continue to monitor the situation with updates and advice from Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

  • The Town will also continue to issue updates accordingly.

  • Please note, the situation is still uncertain.

Where can I get sandbags?
  • Sandbags are available from the Hedland State Emergency Service base, 2444 Great Northern Hwy (next to Waypoint Village).

Sand to fill the sandbags is available at the three locations below:
  • JD Hardie Youth and Community Centre, Cottier Drive, South Hedland.

  • Dreamers Corner, Hamilton Road, South Hedland.

  • Standpipe on Cooke Point Drive, Port Hedland.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

What happens if we go into the next phase?

  • IF we go into 'WATCH AND ACT', all Town of Port Hedland facilities will close immediately, including 24/7 facilities, with the exception of the below:

    • The South Hedland Landfill will remain open for a 2-hour period once a WATCH AND ACT is announced to allow for last-minute waste drops offs.

    • This is for both public and commercial operators.

  • All kerbside waste collections will also pause immediately.

  • The Town will provide an update via Facebook and another email should the status change.

  • If you have a booking at a Council facility, including club training and fixtures, these will be cancelled.

Where should we be getting our updates?
