Port Hedland is mourning the loss of a community advocate following the passing of former councillor Julie Arif over the weekend.
Mayor Peter Carter said Ms Arif was a true ambassador for Hedland and the Pilbara.
“Julie was passionate about Hedland, and especially about preserving and celebrating its history,” he said.
“She was an advocate for our community and will be sorely missed.”
Ms Arif was an author and historian, and was regularly involved with writer’s workshops and other programs at the Hedland libraries and with the Town.
She was manager of the Port Hedland Visitor Centre, was a teacher's aide at Port Hedland Primary School among her many community ventures.
