The Town of Port Hedland is supporting a valuable initiative recognising the important work of carers across Hedland during National Carers Week.
In recognition and celebration of the essential function carers have in Hedland, The Town of Port Hedland will be hosting a free event on October 18 at the Wangka Maya Language Centre.
National Carers Week is an initiative of Carers Australia, funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services, and coordinated with the assistance and participation of the National Carer Network.
It aims to recognise, celebrate and support the contributions of unpaid care work across Australia.
The Town, in collaboration with local partners, will bring carers together at the free afternoon tea in acknowledgement and appreciation of their efforts.
Extra resources and support for these crucial care workers will also be a key focus for this event.
Unpaid care work includes support for family members and friends due to illness, disability, age, mental health condition, or substance related issues.
Town of Port Hedland Mayor Peter Carter said it was important to acknowledge the work of carers who play a crucial role in the Hedland community.
“Hedland is a rich community thanks to all the unique contributions of our residents. This event recognises the valuable role of carers which often goes unnoticed,” Mayor Carter said.
“While we will celebrate their value and commitment at the afternoon tea on 18 October, it’s important that we remember their contributions every single day.
“Our vision is for a future Hedland that is thriving, resilient and inclusive – achieving that future would be impossible without the carers that support individuals in our community.”
Wangka Maya Language Centre in South Hedland is a wheelchair accessible facility.
