The Town of Port Hedland Council has awarded the tender for renewal works at South Hedland Aquatic Centre during a Special Council Meeting on 4 October.
In September 2016, due to a major water quality non-compliance issues and public safety risks, the Aquatic Centre was closed to allow for the review and upgrade of the pool filtration.
The renewal works will rectify all of the issues with the pool’s piping, filtration, and pumps to comply with public safety and the general performance of the mechanical equipment.
“I am pleased that council has accepted the tender and that work can finally commence on the South Hedland Aquatic Centre,” said Town of Port Hedland CEO David Pentz.
“The tender has been awarded to a highly experienced commercial pool contractor that has undertaken several large new constructions as well as refurbishment projects on commercial pools.”
“The contractors have a very clear understanding of the works to be undertaken and have made several recommendations in their submission which will be beneficial for the Town and the SHAC facility going forward.”
Work will commence in the coming weeks, and the projected completion date is the 23rd December, subject to meeting the Department of Health water quality requirements.
