A $50 million capital works program and no rate rises for residential, commercial/industrial and pastoral properties are among highlights of the Town of Port Hedland’s 2024-25 Budget.
Councillors unanimously endorsed the Budget at a special council meeting on Monday night.
Mayor Peter Carter said cost-of-living pressures were front-of-mind for Council when considering any rate increases.
“Council is determined to play its part in relieving the cost-of-living pressures families and property owners in Hedland are currently experiencing,” Mayor Carter said.
Highlights of the 2024-25 Budget include:
- Extending the Rate Gap Program to support pensioners;
- $165,000 in rating concessions for community groups and sporting clubs;
- No increase in fees and charges;
- $1.3 million Events program;
- $50m capital works program;
- $4m for the Spoilbank Marina playground;
- $3m to support the Rose Nowers Childcare development;
- Refurbishment of the Port Hedland Yacht Club building;
- $6.67m for Wedgefield road upgrades;
- $4.6m for Hamilton Road upgrades and entry ways; and
- $2m for renewal and upgrades to parks and family-friendly spaces; and
- $300,000 for increased tree canopy in parks and family-friendly spaces.
“The Town’s continued capital works program is about investing in Hedland’s future,” Mayor Carter said.
“We want to continue advancing important projects that make Hedland an even more attractive place to live, work and play.”
