If you have a qualifying security system, you may be able to claim 50% of the total cost up to $400.00

If you do not have a qualifying security system, you can purchase an approved product from a local vendor.

I PURCHASED AN APPROVED PRODUCT AND/OR COMPLETED THE INSTALLATION BEFORE 1 MAY 2022, CAN I SUBMIT A CLAIM FOR THE HOME SAFETY AND SECURITY REBATE SCHEME?

No, the Safety and Security Rebate Scheme is only available for purchases and installations of new Approved Product made on or after 1 May 2022.

Why do I have to purchase Approved Products from local suppliers within the Port Hedland local government district when I can get the same product cheaper online?

The Town of Port Hedland supports local businesses and encourages the community to buy local to strengthen small businesses and the local community.

WHAT IF A LOCAL SUPPLIER WITHIN THE PORT HEDLAND LOCAL GOVERNMENT DISTRICT HAS SOLD OUT OF AN APPROVED PRODUCT OR DOES NOT HAVE THE APPROVED PRODUCT I WANT, CAN I THEN PURCHASE IT ONLINE OR FROM OTHER SUPPLIERS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA OR ELSEWHERE? 

In general, for the product to be an Approved Product for the Home Safety and Security Rebate Scheme, it has to be purchased from a local supplier within the Port Hedland local government district. It is the local supplier’s discretion as to where they source their Approved Products from.

IF I HARDWIRE AN APPROVED PRODUCT AT MY RESIDENCE AND I AM A TENANT (NOT THE OWNER), CAN I REMOVE THE APPROVED PRODUCT AND TAKE IT WITH ME WHEN I MOVE OUT?

It depends on what you have negotiated with your landlord, please discuss with your landlord.

IF THE APPROVED PRODUCT I INSTALL IS WIRELESS, CAN I REMOVE THE APPROVED PRODUCT AND TAKE IT WITH ME WHEN I MOVE OUT AT THE END OF MY TENANCY?

Again, it depends on what you have negotiated with your landlord, please discuss with your landlord.

WHAT IS AN APPROVED PRODUCT?

The supply and/or installation after 1 May 2022 and before 31 July 2024 of any of the following new products by local suppliers and/or installers in the Port Hedland local government district are approved by the Town for the Scheme (‘Approved Products’):

  • home alarm and CCTV system (wireless and hardwired)
  • security door screen
  • security window screens
  • security window shutters
  • security sensor light
  • wi-fi video doorbell

WHY DO I NEED TO REGISTER MY CCTV SYSTEM WITH THE WESTERN AUSTRALIA POLICE?

I ALREADY HAVE AN OLD CCTV SYSTEM INSTALLED, CAN I UPGRADE TO NEWER CAMERAS AND CLAIM THE SUBSIDY?

It depends if all the Terms and Conditions for the Home Safety and Security Rebate Scheme are met.

WILL I BE ELIGIBLE FOR A REBATE IF I INSTALL THE CCTV SYSTEM BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE MY HOME?

The Home Safety and Security Rebate Scheme is applicable for the installation of CCTV system internally and externally as long as all for the Home Safety and Security Rebate Scheme are met.

I HAVE JUST PAID $300 FOR AN APPROVED PRODUCT (EG NEW LOCKS), DOES THAT MEAN I CAN CLAIM THE FULL $400 REBATE?

No, you can only claim up to 50% of the total cost of the Approved Product and installation, up to the value of $400.Therefore you may only be eligible for a $150 rebate.

I HAVE BOUGHT THE APPROVED PRODUCT FROM A LOCAL SUPPLIER WITHIN THE PORT HEDLAND LOCAL GOVERNMENT DISTRICT. CAN I COMPLETE THE INSTALLATION ON MY OWN?

Electrical installation work must be carried out by a licensed electrician. If your Approved Product requires electrical installation, please organise for your licensed electrician to install the Approved Product. If your Approved Product does not require electrical installation, you may undertake the installation at your own risk.

I AM CONCERNED THAT MY HOME SAFETY AND SECURITY REBATE  APPLICATION WILL NOT BE APPROVED AFTER I HAVE PURCHASED THE PRODUCT, LEAVING ME OUT OF POCKET
