The Hedland community has the opportunity to have its say on a major development proposal for South Hedland.
The South Hedland Tourist Development and Workforce Accommodation Village is proposed on a 10-hectre parcel of land west of Parola Court.
It will be adjacent to the South Hedland Integrated Sports Hub and include a range of facilities including:
- Up to 1311 rooms comprised of a tourist-style, six-storey building with 36 record-style, double-storey accommodation blocks;
- Retail and community facilities including café and restaurant, retail shops and a tavern;
- Outdoor gymnasium, outdoor cricket facility, wellness centre and indoor gym;
- Business centre and offices; and
- 442 light vehicle parking bays and six bus parking bays
Acting Director of Regulatory Services Michael Cuvalo said the revenue the Town would collect from the village would directly benefit the Hedland community.
"We will be able to invest that money directly back into some of our visionary projects which aim to make Hedland a better place to live, work and play,” Mr Cuvalo said.
“This project will also stimulate economic growth through job creation, and the village’s proximity to the South Hedland Town Square will promote better interaction with local businesses.”
Mr Cuvalo said a range of services would be available to the Hedland community.
“This includes access to the retail shops, restaurant, café and tavern,” he said.
Public feedback is currently being sought for the development application, and can be made prior to COB on 16 August at Planning Consultation » Town of Port Hedland
