Feedback sought on path network

The community is invited to have its say on the Town of Port Hedland’s plan to improve the footpath, shared path and pedestrian access way network in Hedland.

Councillors at Wednesday night’s Ordinary Council Meeting endorsed the public submission phase of the Town’s newly developed Active Transport Strategy.

Active transport includes modes of transport that require physical activity such as walking, cycling and using a wheelchair.

The active transport network includes footpaths, shared paths and pedestrian access ways in Hedland, with the strategy providing a blueprint for future investment in key infrastructure across Hedland.

“The current footpath network is disjointed and of variable quality which doesn’t promote the sort of active transport network that would benefit the Hedland community,” Mayor Peter Carter said.

“The Town is committed to improving liveability and having a safe, well-designed and connected network of paths and accessways promoted health and wellbeing.

“The strategy is our blueprint for future investment in key infrastructure to connect Port and South Hedland’s footpath and shared pathway network.”

Public feedback on the Active Transport Strategy can be made until 26 July by emailing eplanning@porthedland.wa.gov.au
