More than 150 native animals have successfully been relocated from the Kingsford Smith Business Park stage 2 subdivision.
The program was carried out by Natural Area Consulting, who relocated the 151 animals to an area nearby that was approved by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation, and Attractions.
All fauna were relocated on the day of their capture, ensuring minimal disruption to their habitats and safety during the process.
Director of Regulatory Services, Kylie Davies, said the Town was dedicated to responsible environmental management for a sustainable future.
“The Town plays an important role in making sure our projects protect our native wildlife," she said.
“We are proud to have partnered with Natural Area Consulting for this program and see the positive outcomes.
“By prioritising the protection of our local fauna, we are ensuring the responsible and sustainable development of Port Hedland’s future business hub."
A key focus of this initiative was to minimise potential wildlife injuries or fatalities resulting from development activities.
The project operated under a relocation license and legislative requirement as a condition of subdivision approval by the WA Planning Committee, and cleared by the DBCA, further emphasising the Town’s commitment to environmental practices.
