As the holiday season approaches, the Town is emphasising the importance of responsible pet ownership, particularly when entrusting the care of pets to others while away on holidays.
The Town is urging pet owners to take proactive steps to ensure the well-being and safety of their beloved animals.
Many individuals entrust their pets to friends, family, or professional caretakers while they travel or celebrate during the festive season. However, it is important to make sure that those caring for your pets are well-informed and equipped to maintain the animals' health, happiness, and safety.
To facilitate responsible pet care this holiday season, the Town recommends the following measures:
- Communication: Provide detailed instructions to the caretaker about the pet's feeding schedule, medication (if any), exercise routine, and any specific behaviour or health concerns.
- Emergency Contact Information: Share emergency contact information, including the veterinarian's details, with the caretaker to address any unforeseen circumstances promptly. Does the caretaker also have a plan if a cyclone comes?
- Identification: Ensure pets are wearing collars with updated identification tags or are microchipped, enabling easy identification if they get lost or escape.
- Supplies: Provide sufficient food, medications, toys, and any necessary supplies to the caretaker to ensure the pet's comfort and well-being.
- Meet and greet: If feasible, arrange for the pet to spend time with the caretaker beforehand, allowing both parties to familiarise themselves with each other.
If you’re unsure, give the Town a call on 08 9158 9300 for more information.
