Town of Port Hedland councillors have recommended the Regional Joint Development Assessment Panel approves a $25 million, 75-unit residential development in South Hedland town centre.
The proposed development on Collier Way includes:
- 32 ‘Grouped Dwellings’ including eight three-bedroom dwelling and 23 two-bedroom dwellings and one single bedroom dwelling;
- 26 one-bedroom units across 13 double-storey buildings; and
- 17 ‘Serviced Apartment’ units across three double-storey buildings.
At Wednesday night’s Ordinary Council meeting, councillors voted to recommend the development be approved.
Mayor Peter Carter said access to affordable housing remained one of the Town’s biggest challenges.
“This development will provide a mix of residential housing options providing permanent and temporary accommodation for workers in Hedland.” Mayor Carter said.
“The housing challenges Hedland faces are significant and are a handbrake on residential growth.
“Council is taking a proactive approach to helping find solutions and we are hopeful this development will be approved by the JDAP.”
The development also includes 92 car parking spaces, a central communal open space and a small commercial space.
