Published on Monday, 12 December 2022 at 10:39:33 AM

The Town of Port Hedland is forming a Youth Advisory Council in a bid to give young people in the Hedland community the opportunity to showcase their ideas, skills and vision.

The Council will provide young people with the opportunity to contribute to the planning of youth activities, services and projects while developing skills in leadership, advocacy and team building.

Mayor Peter Carter encouraged young people 15 to 24 who are involved in community activities such as sporting clubs, volunteering or community groups and with an interest in leadership to apply.

“The Town is always looking for ways to engage young people who are passionate about big-picture ideas and are motivated to provide a youth voice for the Hedland community,” Mayor Carter said.

“The Council will also be consulted on infrastructure, town planning and development issues relevant to young people.

“As Hedland continues to grow, we want to ensure young people are given the opportunity to provide their input into the future direction of our community.

“The Youth Advisory Council will be consulted on a range of important events, projects, community activations and will provide advocacy for other young people in our community”.

Applications for the Youth Advisory Council are now open and can be submitted by young people, community groups, community organisations as well as members of the community who are local to Hedland.

Applications close 3 March 2023.
