Annual green waste clean-up outcomes 2024

Published on Tuesday, 17 September 2024 at 11:35:48 AM

The Town of Port Hedland recently conducted the annual green-waste cyclone clean-up in collaboration with Norcape Contracting.

Residents were encouraged to get out in their gardens and get rid of any excess branches, leaves, or green waste to prepare for the upcoming cyclone season, to minimise the risk of flying debris.

All green waste was to be no longer than 1.5 meters in length, nor cause any obstruction to roads, pathways, and infrastructure.

Ever wondered what happens to this collected green waste? Well, the Town turns it into free mulch!

Last year, the Town collected 103.295 tonnes of green waste, with 31.78320 tonnes converted into mulch.

This mulch was distributed at two locations: Cooke Point Standpipe along Cooke Point Drive, Port Hedland, and Dreamers Corner in South Hedland.

This year, we collected 189.63 tonnes of green waste, with 88.99 tonnes being turned into mulch, ready to give back to the community for free!

The Town is committed to creating a safe and resilient community and takes proactive steps to minimise risk in the lead-up to cyclone season.

Thank you to everyone who has participated and helped clear out excess green waste from their properties, ready for cyclone season. Your cooperation is appreciated!
