A new shopping centre featuring a Good Grocer IGA supermarket is a step closer after approval was granted by the Regional Development Assessment Panel on Tuesday.

Hedland Village Shopping Centre is on a 1.7 hectare block of land on Hamilton Road, opposite Wanangkura Stadium and adjacent to Hedland Senior High School.

The centre has been proposed by Turner River Developments and includes 3500m2 of lettable area to be anchored by a 1500m2 The Good Grocer IGA supermarket.

The proposed centre also includes:

  • A fuel /convenience store;

  • Pharmacy;

  • Childcare centre capable of catering for 130 places;

  • Hungry Jacks;

  • Subway;

  • Tavern/restaurant; and

  • Six retail shops.

The primary shopping centre will feature covered pedestrian walkways to provide sheltered direct access from the parking area, which provides 223 parking spaces.

Mayor Peter Carter said the development would be hugely welcomed by the community.

“Having a greater variety of shopping and hospitality options helps make Hedland a more attractive place to work and live,” Mayor Carter said.

“We all know access to childcare is another huge issue in Hedland, so an additional childcare facility will help address some of the challenges.

“The proposal is really exciting and we look forward to it becoming a reality in the very near future.”
