The Town of Port Hedland is pleased to announce that some of Australia’s best skaters and riders will come to Hedland for the grand opening of the newly refurbished skatepark.
Renowned BMX rider, James Pease, and professional skateboarder, and Pilbara local, Nixen-Kodhi Osborne will both be part of the team taking part in the grand opening event on 25 November.
James said he was excited to come to Hedland and see the upgraded facility.
“I’m amped to get to Hedland to see the impressive facility. Having a huge shaded skatepark will be such a benefit for youth in Hedland.”
Nixen-Kohdi Osborne grew up in the Pilbara, and spent many years skating at both South and Port Hedland skateparks.
“As a skateboarder who’s visited loads of skateparks around the world, this one in South Hedland offers a world-class facility for users of all levels of experience,” Nixen said.
The grand opening evening on Friday 25 November will include a range of free activities for people of all ages and families, such as professional skating and riding, competitions, dance and music performance, chalk drawing competition, skate deck design workshop and a free BBQ.
Town of Port Hedland Mayor Peter Carter said the grand opening was shaping up to be a true community celebration of the great community asset.
“The Town of Port Hedland recognises the importance of providing safe spaces for the community to enjoy,” Mayor Carter said.
‘We’ve invested in making this skatepark a world-class facility with not only great skateable space, but also an impressive shade structure with in-built audio and visual capability. I’m excited to see the space come to life during this opening event that will offer something for everyone.”
