You're invited to the Town's free, all ages Australia Day events on Thursday 26 January, 2023. We're holding these events for the community to come together and be proud of the nation we call home. In the afternoon, cool off from the Pilbara sun at the Town of Port Hedland Splash Party from 2pm to 5pm at South Hedland Aquatic Centre. There'll be free entry, family activities, BBQ, inflatables and a bombie competition at 3:00pm.
Cap off the day's festivities with the Pilbara Ports Authority Fireworks Spectacular from 6:00pm - 8:30pm at Kevin Scott Oval. There'll be music, food vans, family activities and the fireworks spectacular blasting off from 8:00pm.
Please be advised these are alcohol and drug free events. To help minimise the spread of COVID-19, we encourage attendees to maintain social distancing where possible, cover coughs and sneezes with elbow, keep hands wash and sanitised and do not attend events if you are unwell or have tested positive for COVID-19.
These events are presented by the Town of Port Hedland and Port Hedland Leisure and made possible by Fireworks Partner Pilbara Ports Authority and supported by AUS Traffic Management.

Accessibility
- The Splash Party is accessible for attendees in wheelchairs or those utilising prams.
- The venue has accessible parking on Leake Street.
- Accessible change facility is available at the centre which includes toilet and hoist.
- Access into the pools include a ramp entry into the main pool and a beach entry into the leisure pool.
- If you require use of the aqua wheelchair please visit the Kiosk.
Entry
- Free access to all community members into South Hedland Aquatic Centre on Thursday 26 January.
Parking
- If you are driving to the event, free parking is available along Leake Street and surrounding areas.
Food and Drinks
- The Town will be providing a free sausage sizzle at the event and drinks can be purchased from the Kiosk. We encourage you to bring along your refillable water bottles and utilise the onsite water fountain. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks, however please ensure no glass or ceramic containers or bottles are used.
- Attendees are reminded this is a smoke, alcohol and other drug free event.
Information and Safety
- Attendees are reminded that it will be a hot day so stay hydrated and remember to slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen, slap on a hat, seek shade and slide on your sunglasses.
- If you have any questions, lost something or someone or need medical attention please visit the Kiosk.
- In the event of an emergency, follow the directions from staff.
- Please note children under the age of twelve years must be within visual line of sight at all times by a person eighteen years of age or older. Children under the age of six years must at all times be within arm’s reach of a person eighteen years of age or older.

Accessibility
- The Pilbara Ports Authority Fireworks Spectacular is accessible for attendees in wheelchairs or those utilising prams.
- Designated accessible parking and loading zones are available at Wanangkura Stadium.
- The venue has accessible toilets (Unisex Left Hand/ Baby Change, Male Left Hand, Female Right Hand).
- An accessible viewing area for wheelchairs has been designated as part of the stage viewing area.
- Assisted listening devices are available for the event and can be signed out at the Information Desk as per the event map.

Parking
- If you are driving to the event, free parking is available at Wanangkura Stadium and Faye Gladstone Netball Courts. Overflow parking locations is available at the Matt Dann Theatre and Cinema and Dreamers Corner. A temporary cross walk will be in place along Hamilton Road, opposite Caltex Service Station.
- Taxi/rideshare zones and loading zones are available at Wanangkura Stadium.
Chairs and Picnic Blankets
- Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and picnic blankets to the event. Please be respectful of other attendees and follow the picnic rug/ chair signs.

Food and Drinks
- There will be a range of food and non-alcoholic drink options available at the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks however, please ensure no glass containers or bottles are used. There is multiple public water fountains onsite.
- Attendees are reminded this is an alcohol and other drug free event. It is an offence in Western Australia for persons of any age to drink in public, such as on the street, park or beach.
Road Closures and Traffic Management
- Community members are advised that the following road closures will be in place from 3:00pm- 10:00pm on Thursday 26 January 2023:
- Parola Court, South Hedland
- Partial closure of Hudson Way, South Hedland
- For attendees parking in the overflow parking area, a temporary cross walk will be in place along Hamilton Road, opposite Caltex Service Station. Community members are advised that there will be an increase vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the area, please ensure you follow all road rules and directions given by the traffic management staff.

- Let’s ‘Do the right thing’ at Kevin Scott Oval and surrounds. Dispose of your litter in the rubbish bins provided.
