Let’s celebrate Hedland’s sporting legends!
Sport plays such an important role in small communities like ours, providing social connections as well as health and wellbeing outcomes. The Community Sports Awards recognise the talent, ambition and contribution of individuals and groups from across Hedland.
Alongside recognition of their achievement and contributions to our sporting community, there are cash prizes (thanks to our generous sponsors) available to award winners:
Individuals - $1,000
Sporting Group of the Year - $2,000
Award Categories and Criteria
Junior Sportswoman of the Year
- Must be aged 18 and under as of Sept 2024.
- Selected/and or competed at Northwest Country State national and / or International Championship.
- Not been suspended, disciplined, or reprimanded at any level of competition
- Demonstrated commitment to personal development and teamwork in their chosen sport/s.
Junior Sportsman of the Year
- Must be aged 18 and under as of Sept 2024.
- Selected/and or competed at Northwest Country State national and / or International Championship.
- Not been suspended, disciplined, or reprimanded at any level of competition
- Demonstrated commitment to personal development and teamwork in their chosen sport/s.
Sportswoman of the Year
- Must be over the age of 18 as of Sept 2024
- Selected/and or competed at Northwest Country State national and / or International Championship.
- Not been suspended, disciplined, or reprimanded at any level of competition
- Demonstrated commitment to personal development and teamwork in their chosen sport/s.
Sportsman of the Year
- Must be over the age of 18 as of Sept 2024
- Selected/and or competed at Northwest Country State national and / or International Championship.
- Not been suspended, disciplined, or reprimanded at any level of competition
- Demonstrated commitment to personal development and teamwork in their chosen sport/s.
Sporting Group of the Year
- Club has participated in Every Club Development Program workshops in 2024 calendar year
- Has maintained or increased membership numbers from previous year
- Appropriate levels of ‘best practice’ surrounding club governance and management are evident
- Club can demonstrate sound financial management.
Coach of the Year
- Performed in an official capacity at sporting fixtures/ events at Local, Regional or State Level.
- Completed minimum Level 1 National Coaching Accreditation Course.
- Contributed to the development of their chosen sport/s in the 2024 calendar year.
- Through their leadership, improved the level of performance of the team and / or individual athlete
Umpire/Official of the Year
- Performed at sporting fixtures/events at Local, Regional or State Level in 2024.
- Completed minimum Level 1 Nationally Accredited Umpiring course.
- Demonstrated commitment and contribution to their personal development, along with the development of their sport in 2024.
- Through their leadership has improved the level of performance of the team/ individual.
Volunteer of the Year
- Undertaken a role/s in a club/association during 2024.
- Actively contributed to clubs/associations objectives during 2024
- Participation and attendance at a minimum of one Every Club Workshop and/or initiative in 2024
- Did not receive remuneration for their services to their clubs/association.
Service to Sport Award
- Length of service to sporting/community (minimum 10 years’ service).
- Number of sporting organisations engaged overtime.
- Demonstrated contribution to the sport or industry.
- Demonstrated achievement or legacy as a result of contribution.
