Following Ex-Tropical Cyclone Zelia in February, the Town has successfully finished the green waste verge collection with incredible figures.

Various contractors including Norcape Tree and Contracting, Up Your Grass, Mucci’s Bricklaying and Town staff covered 19 mapped areas across Port and South Hedland, Wedgefield, Bosna and Boodarie.

Over a 23-day period, a total of 285 truckloads of green waste were collected, equating to 5,365.42 tonnes. This included residential pickups and other areas across town that were affected by fallen trees and excess shrub.

The green waste was recycled into mulch, free for the community to use which equated to 89 truckloads (26 tonnes of mulch).

The overall collection is a staggering 2,729.3% increase from September 2024’s annual collection.

The Town extends its gratitude to all residents, businesses, and community organisations who participated in the clean-up, who all helped contribute to creating a safer and cleaner environment.
