An exciting 18 month-long initiative to develop an inaugural place brand for Port Hedland started this week.
The ‘Our place, Our story’ project will mould the future of Hedland’s identity and support economic development.
A place brand is more than just a logo or slogan - it is the story, values and identity that define a location. It captures the essence of a place, showcasing its strengths, character and aspirations to attract visitors, residents and investors.
The 'Our place, Our story' project aims to reveal and share what makes Port Hedland unique, while fostering local pride, attracting new residents, encouraging investment and enhancing Hedland’s reputation as a tourism destination.
For the first time, a dedicated place brand will capture and share the true essence of Hedland, built on the voices, culture and aspirations of the community.
Principal Economic Development, Ryley Heap said place branding was a long-term commitment to improving perceptions over time.
"Improving perceptions of Hedland will deliver meaningful economic and social impact for our community,” he said.
“It will help local businesses recruit staff, encourage more visitors to experience our attractions and attract investment that improves amenity and liveability.
"This project aims to showcase Hedland honestly, in a way that will make our community proud of their home, without shying away from the challenges we face."
The Town is calling on residents, community groups, local businesses and tourism operators to get involved and help to build a brand that celebrates the place they call home.
Mayor Peter Carter highlighted the importance of community involvement in the project.
“This is a community-driven initiative, ensuring that Hedland’s identity is built by the people who live, work and invest here," he said.
“By working together, we can create a place brand that authentically represents who we are and what makes Hedland special.
"This investment in our future will help position Hedland as a destination of choice, attracting new residents, businesses, and visitors to support a thriving and resilient community."
The ‘Our place, Our story’ Project will provide multiple opportunities for community participation, from workshops to online engagement and design exhibitions.
