Free mosquito control sachets for Hedland residents

Following the significant rainfall from Ex-Tropical Cyclones Sean and Zelia, the Town of Port Hedland is actively working to control the surge in mosquito numbers across the region.

In response, the Town has purchased sachets of Coopex, an effective residual pesticide, to support residents in managing mosquitoes around their homes.

The sachets will be provided free of charge to residents for residential use only. Commercial businesses are encouraged to engage a licensed pest controller for treatments on commercial properties.

Product collection details:

  • Available:  From 12:00pm Wednesday, 26 February
  • Locations: Civic Centre, Depot Administration Reception (Wedgefield), and South Hedland Library desk
  • Limit: One sachet per customer

Coopex is a pyrethroid-based residual chemical designed for application on external walls, eaves, and other outdoor surfaces. The product remains active for up to 90 days unless washed off by rain or sprinklers, in which case reapplication will be required.

Application guidelines:

  • Mix the product at the recommended rate with water and apply using a pressure sprayer set to a misting setting.
  • Avoid applying to surfaces accessible to pets and children; consider applying above certain heights to ensure safe separation.
  • Target dark, cool, and sheltered areas where mosquitoes typically rest, such as under homes, patio eaves, around structures, and on surfaces screened by vegetation.

Residents are reminded to strictly follow the instructions on the product label. By accepting the product, users assume all responsibility for its application and outcomes.
